Philly's History
In 1988 Paul wondered why he couldn't get a real Philly Cheesesteak in Florida.
Paul age 23, in Clearwater for the Phillies spring training, went out to find a cheesesteak. What he found was places that sold a "steak n cheese". It was microwaved roastbeef on a oversized hot dog buns! How could a city that hosts the Philadelphia Phillies not know how to make a Philly cheesesteak? Two years later, Paul left Philadelphia to open the first restaurant in Florida to serve a "real" Philly Cheesesteak.
Blame the water or the humidity but no one could make a roll that tasted like the Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia. Paul convinced a small company from Gainesville, if they would supply the rolls from Amoroso, he'd give them all his business. They did and Philly's was born in March of 1990.
Since then, a few restaurants have tried to duplicate Philly's success by getting Amoroso rolls, but using the right steak and the secret seasoning is what makes our Cheestesteak's stand out above the rest.
Many customers claim Philly's has better Cheeseteaks than even in Philly! We thank them and the food critics for the wonderful reviews and please spread the word!
